Every year, in early summer, thousands upon thousands of New Zealanders celebrate their passion for gardening at the internationally renowned Ellerslie Flower Show.

Here's what You can expect to see at the
1998 Ellerslie Flower Show

Since the first show in 1994, the Ellerslie Flower Show has grown so much that it now rivals the world's most famous shows in innovation and variety. The Ellerslie Flower Show showcases the unique flavour that New Zealand's bold use of colour, mix of cultures, varied climates and horticultural styles brings to our gardens. It has proved to be so popular that it is now the largest flower and horticulture show in the Southern Hemisphere.

This year, the Ellerslie Flower Show moves to a purpose-built venue, complete with a specially created 80 metre long lake. The new venue and over 300 exhibitors will make this year's show bigger, better and more diverse than ever before. The Ellerslie Flower Show Venue in the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens at Manukau City is only 20 minutes by motorway from the centre of Auckland and only 15 minutes from Auckland International Airport. Nestled among majestic 300 year old Totara trees on a hillside of lush native bush, the site borders one of Auckland's premier garden reserves and looks over the beautiful Manukau harbour to the West and the market gardens of Pukekohe to the South.

The Retail Stands

The retail stands are the "markets" of the show. All the hustle and bustle associated with a vibrant industry, with everything from BBQs to lawnmowers, potting mix, ergonomic spades, breathtaking statues, hand crafted native timber and beautiful preserved fruit.

New Categories for 1998

Art in the Garden and Garden Structures are new categories for the 1998 show and will be displayed on the shore of the specially created lake. Entrants in these categories demonstrate their flair for design, by creating a landscaped setting for common every-day garden features in a set area.

The Great Marquees
The Great Marquees, the heart of the Ellerslie Flower Show, will be full to overflowing with fabulous flowers, exotic plants, fruit and succulent vegetables. You will see new breeds of plant life for the very first time and find new uses for some of the country's more familiar native plants. Once you have been inside The Great Marquees, you will understand why they are the heart of the Ellerslie Flower Show.

The Outdoor Gardens
The incredible Outdoor Gardens, built by New Zealand's top landscape designers, represent every New Zealand gardener's dream. The marvellous designs will give you ideas and inspiration for your own gardens, however big or small.

The Floral Design Marquee
This silk-lined marquee is a favourite with all who appreciate the magnificence of floral displays. You will be delighted by the symphony of bright and beautiful displays created by the country's leading floral art groups, professional florists and designers. The theme this year is "A Summer Wedding".

The Garden Design Marquee
This magnificent Marquee reflects the present and up-and-coming talent in New Zealand's landscape industry and is a "must see" for anyone serious about landscape design. The Living Design section gives New Zealand's most talented landscapers and garden designers the opportunity to demonstrate their ingenuity by creating a theme garden in a limited 4m x 4m space. A creative and technical challenge that always produces a beautiful exhibit. "Light in the Garden" is the theme for 1998.
